My truck seems to leak a little bit of oil...i realize the 1st gens do this...but i replaced the valve cover gasket and the gasket under the timing cover....but the rear seal seems to leak about 5-6 drops over a 24 hour period. It is bone dry everywhere else. Is this an issue that I need to address?

Also...how do i check tranny fluid.....I believe it is the plug on the side of the resevoir...but want to check with you guys...how do I know if it's overfull a couple of quarts for the ol' getrag? What do ya'll recommend that i put in the tranny?

 

Sounds like your rear main seal, mine started the same thing this spring. I have traveled from Florida to Arizona and all over in between pulling my 5th wheel and it has not gotten any worse yet so I would say run it unless it gets any worse. I will tear mine down this winter when it is not 200 degrees outside but for now it can drip.
Don't know which plug you are talking about but pull one of the upper side PTO cover plate bolts and fill it until it runs back out the hole and you will be fine. Maybe someone here will have a picture for you. I run Mobile One engine oil in mine, 5w 30 weight I think off hand.

As far as over filling it, i drain my,refiled it with 5w30(5Q's syntetic) thru the top bolt


of the PTO cover and the us a coat hanger and made a dip stick,marked full on it, that atached it to the wire loom clamp on the fram next to the fill plug so it will be there the next time i need to see if it full(over full, Full )
