Smarty and modded tranny issues

Well I got a GB tranny in finally and WOW. Didnt realize how much power the stock tranny absorbed. Well with the smarty on 9 I barely have to push the pedal to get going. Likewise the tranny seems to be short shifting. I thinki since the pedal's range is shortened it confuses the tranny in the since that it thinks your driving easy but with a smarty the truck is laying down power. Could this be bad being how such light throttle is given, tranny shifts soon, since the TV cable is barely moving. Too keep up with traffic the truck shifts at 1500rpm. Engne is barely reving at all. I know the old trannies used throttle pressure to increase line pressure and then gov pressure had to match the throttle pressure in order to upshift. Old mopars used a linkage type throttle valve, and if that linkage came lose, the tranny would shift through all 3 gears by 20mph. Anyone else run into this?

I do know that #9 condenses the pedal pretty good, but my 6 speed doesn't care about that.

If you haven't already called Dave, I would suggest you do so and run it past him. He may have an idea.

I have a GB tranny and a Smarty also. No problems here. Just more power to the ground and firmer shifts. Maybe try resetting your APPS?

exactly the tranny needs some adjustments. I have been running catcher and now smarty for going in to 2 years.

I did talk to Bill Kondolay about the smarty and he said transmission need to be set up a little different when smarty is being used.

He has never seen a product produce si much low end torque so low.

My tranny beed updated back in 01 with Bills parts and my tranny shifts nice and smooth

Havent tried the APPS yet. What would have to be done to the tranny? Gb trannies have higher line pressures, and hopefully that should allow it to hold more power overall, even when the Smarty is working its magic.

I have noticed the potential for "short shifting" but have not had my DTT adjusted.
I simply make sure I drive "through" the shift... accelerating, when possible, at all shift points. With a little practice, it's easy to do.
Keeping OD locked out around town and anytime under 50 mph helps.
I also find #7 setting on the Smarty makes controlling shifts easier. No less fueling than #9, just comes in at a more gradual rate.

just as a test, I the fuel saver. The tranny it goes above. 2k now, and seems closer to normal shifting. I'll try #7 and see. So just staying in it when it shifts? When it goes into OD the turbo barks at times. So it shifts nice and frim. I love it.

just an update. I've been running #5 for towing and all. It seems to be the best setting. Tranny seems to be just about right for this. I might call Dave and GB and see if he has heard anything or recommends anything.

Its the same way with a GSK on a 12 valve, so i feel you will be fine. The GSK makes the pedal way touchier, so just run it. Id call Dave if I was worried about it though.

I'm having the exact same issues with my GB tranny. I've been working with Dave. Just call him up and he'll get you all set up.

Called Dave, and he's gonna do some research on it. Hopefully its a simple fix, if it even needs one.

Sounds like it might be as simple as a small TV cable adjustment to get the shift points to where they need to be. Pretty easy to do as well.

That is what I was thinking, buit it shifts fine at WOT. My big concern is at part throttle.
