The adapter on the crank was for an allison A545 or something from a big *** grumman truck. I'll sell it if someone wants to do an allison swap. $50
More pics! I'm really starting to think this engine was either reworked, or was actually sitting in the salvage yard with 43,000 miles on it. Its immaculate. Opened the head because when i tried to turn it with the starter it bound up. There was a small bit of surface rust in cylinder 4. I managed to get it out and the engine spins so nicely. the factory cross hatching is still there too!
Good to see it has a Wix filter on it too. I've walked away from more than one vehicle (especially Cummins engines) because it had a Fram filter on it.
Any chance someone could take a picture of their starter wired up? I found one wire to engage the starter gear, and the thick mounting area makes it spin. i want to see how it came from factory?
you basicly have it figured out.....large heavy gauge battery cable from battery to starter, then the small wire is run to a starter relay and is powered only when you want the starter to turn.
Do a google search on wiring up a 12V starter....pretty much the same on most vehicles with the solenoid mounted on the starter.
I am curious what it came out of also? Could you post your engine serial number and the cpl? You will find it on the data tag on the left side of the timing gear case. I am betting it is an early engine like 1988 or older?
Do i need an in tank or inline fuel pump in my system or is the engine's lift pump capable of sucking fuel to the engine? The fuel tank in the car is rotted and rusty and i'm looking to replace it but i wasnt sure if i'd need an external pump or not.
