for me it allowed me to reach high idle. as i explained in the beginning of the thread, my pedal would bottom out on the floor and i could only get to probably 2200 rpm at most. the move stiffened the pedal because of less leverage of course. and the inner hole is back a little farther from the outer, so now it doesn't take much pedal movement to get to high idle. and i have breakaway also, which is a good thing.

On my truck - which is auto - the TPS plate is kinda in the way but not really, but I also have 2 additional springs that I don't see in your first picture: did you have them and removed them / never had them in the first place?
Your extra spring is for your throttle valve cable....which you need...and the linkage will fit under the tps...mine did.

Have someone pedal the throttle for you while you observe how much travel you have and how much there is to be gained. If you lose that high idle screw there is alot of travel to be gained there. From the inside location on the throttle lever the throttle rod may hit the afc tower casting, you can clearance that for more travel...
i certainly do need one. i noticed that when i moved the linkage. i'm gonna go to the auto shop at the school i took my diesel classes at. my instructor has 100's of pumps in the shop. guaranteed i can find one and hand him a couple bucks for it. he may even tell me to just take it. he may be retiring soon. i may be able to get my hands on some good stuff

yes i did. my linkage used to be on the outer hole and the return spring on the inside. i read somewhere on here that there was an advantage to it. "more go fast with less pedal travel" someone told me haha

i've only had just the 1 spring. the auto's are different because of OD's and CC somehow.

It increases the total amount of fuel the pump can deliver.

That would be unauthorized tampering, nobody here would ever encourage you to do that.

If you did that without turning up your full power screw, your idle would be very low i think.... The reason i had to do this mod was because i turned my pump up and had to shorten my idle screw adjustment to get my idle back down, but with the pump turned all the way up, i still couldn't get the idle low enough, if i indexed the throttle linkage i could lower the idle, but now i couldn't get full throttle. To make a long story shorter, this mod gives you just enough travel to fix both issues.
