It looks like you could use a new breakover spring. Any slop is lost throttle action.
Have someone pedal the throttle for you while you observe how much travel you have and how much there is to be gained. If you lose that high idle screw there is alot of travel to be gained there. From the inside location on the throttle lever the throttle rod may hit the afc tower casting, you can clearance that for more travel...

I wouldn't claim that throttle rod move makes higher rpm's anymore than the original location. For me it was the amount of pedal "feel". It changes that substantially, it lightens the pedal feel alot. On the early 1st Gen there was a heavy pedal feel and there was enough complaints about it for a TSB if I recall correctly.

You moved the linkage to the hole where the spring attaches and vice versa (the spring to where the linkage used to attach), right?
On my truck - which is auto - the TPS plate is kinda in the way but not really, but I also have 2 additional springs that I don't see in your first picture: did you have them and removed them / never had them in the first place?
