thottle linkage question

the inside arm, closest to the IP, of the throttle linkage keeps coming off (at least I think that is the proper name for it the assembly next to the IP that moves when you press the accelerator) it looks like there is a recess for a c-clip that is supposed to prevent such a thing form happening but no clip. First what is this arm is there anything special to know about proper postioning?

It sounds like you have the same problem I do. Where the small socket portion of the linkage sits on the ball on the injector pump mine falls off when I hit a bump. I have been wondering about fixing this myself. I went to the dealer and they will not sell the end piece that threads on the rod anymore. Instead they want $45 for the entire rod assembly. I am going to try and build something of my own to save money. The piece that allows this to fall off is plastic, so I don't know of much you can do to fix it.

I ran a set up similar to that for almost a year, til bgilbert took pity on me and sold me one of his spare rods/ endcap for dirt cheap. I had baling wire doubled up and twisted so it looked nicer.

Cummins sells a nice linkage rod with metal ball cups, the part # is in the "Tech Facts" section of the site.

So does Dodge. Cummins will be cheaper, but I get a hookup at my Dodge $tealership, plus the Dodge boys got it to me in a day, Cummins would have taken a week.

One note of interest is that the Dodge part was in a Cummins bag and had the Dodge part no. stuck over it.

On my truck it isn't the ball socket bit that falls off it is the silver slotted piece closest to the IP. what is this thing and any thoughts on fixing it?

That's the cruise control cable. There's suppose to be a washer and a clip to hold it. Go see your Dodge dealer, he can show you an exploded diagram and get you any pieces you can't scrounge from the hardware store.
