You will have to at least pull the top and if You cant remove the tunnel from top then You will just have to pull the transmission.
Something wrong with the 3-4 syncro, fortunately if it is the ball bearings and springs inside there are kits to service them that are very affordable. First thing when You pull the transmission I would check for play on the input then start taking it apart. If it isn't the syncro then something moved on the mainshaft.
I know how it feels, I just finished putting mine back together. Rebuilding the getrag is not as hard and aggravating as putting it back on the truck and the getrag is easier to work on than other transmissions.
Hope it is an easy fix.

This same thing may have happened to my 89 today. Is that all pretty straight forward work once you get in there? I mean working on the forks.

I don't tend to get into my tranny at all, but it would beat 2500+ for a new tranny and all the rif raf and such.

Thanks much!

once you get the top off it will very easy to tel what happened.
on mine the roll pin came loose and fell to the bottom of the housing , without getting caught up in any gears. not a hard fix by any means

You can't replace the forks without a press.
