Just an update on my thread involving a truck I looked at that wanted to clash when upshifting to third.

Went back there today to have another look. (even though it's a 2+ hour drive) Drove truck again. Truck still wanted to clash going into third, unless you took it real slow making the shift. Complained to dealer again

Had dealer come drive the truck with me.

Dealer Hammered on it and put it through the gears, went for a quick upshift to third and did a big ol' clash

He said oh

that is noticeable isn't it??

Agreed to pull tranny and have fixed.

So I put a deposit on it. Done deal

So glad to fianally get the truck I wanted.

'99 2500 sport 5 spd 4x4 Quad cab loaded.

Been waiting for this for a long time. It'll be done next week or early the week after.

Can't wait.

 

I registered to this forum just to let you know I had the exact problem, I however purchased mine privately with 250,000km. The guy I got it from said it was just a syncro ring, and would be real cheap to replace.

I drove the truck for another 20,000km, with no sycnro just mathcing the rpms to road speed, and finnaly the thing gave out.

It cost me $1800 Cdn to have a shop pull the tranny, replace 3rd gear syncro, and they found that it had worn the main shaft and third gear itself.

Lucky you got the garage to fix it for ya first, I would make sure they do it right...

yeah ....my 5 spd went the same way .........ended up putting in a rebuilt cause I need it fixed right now .......cost me 1800 for the rebuilt and we swapped it out

sounds like a common problem .......... I thought these nv4500 never had problems ???
