Thinking about saving another one, opinions?

Well, a good customer of mine called me last week and said he had an old man friend of his who had to go into a nursing home. He has a 93 D250 regular cab 4x2 auto LE sitting in his garage with 102,000 original miles on it that he is going to help him get rid of and wanted to know if I was interested. I told him I was and would come see it. He got it over to his place and I am going to look tonight after work. It is the dark green with the gold in the middle, and he says it's the cleanest ol first gen he's seen. Completely bone stock, never pulled hard. I am not sure on the money. I was thinking $3,000-$3,500 and this friend of mine thought that would get it. What do you guys think???

Jump on it! For that money for those miles? That's a no-brainer to me. Auto or stick?

Edit: I sorry, I see it's an auto.

I would jump right on that one. You can probably make a couple grand selling it if it's as clean as you say.

Well, went and looked! Forgot my camera, anyhow, It looks real good. New tires all the way around but it looks like somebody rubbed the right front on something cause it has a big old gash in it and the cord is showing, so it needs one tire. The green paint is great, the gold on the bed has a few small places where it is starting to pop, very small though. It has 127k on the odometer. The air blows ice cold and everything in the cab works as it should. The engine and under the truck is clean, no oil leaks. Now, the question, it has the A518 auto trans. I have never owned or even driven one of these. That I could tell the torque converter never would lock up. I know the older 3 speed 727's did not have a lock-up torque converter but I thought the A518 did? Which is it supposed to be? Long story short, the old man said he would not take a penny less than $4g's for it, so I buckled and paid it. I will probably go get it this weekend. This thing has never even had a hitch on it, no reciever hitch, no gooseneck, no fifth wheel, so I don't thin it has been hurt.

The A518 does not have a lock up torque converter, it does have overdrive which the 727 does not. The best thing to do would be to buy an aftermarket TC from your favorite trans builder and install with a shift kit and that tranny will last a long time. Also add an auxillary cooler under the bed.

It has the original window sticker still with it and it says something about an extra or severe duty trans cooler for and extra $300 and some odd dollars. I am a Dodge dealer and I have a really good transmission man, so I think I will have him overhaul it and beef it up with a few stronger parts and a better converter later on. We will only use it to pull a little 24' stock trailer with a couple horses in it occasionally, and my wife may use it a little, but we have bigger and newer trucks for real heavy hauling. This one will just be for fun. I like the old one's and so does my wife. The engine is stock, and I intend to keep it that way other than maybe a 4" exahust when the stock one rusts out.

Hmmm, I just printed out a summary report on the truck off of DealerConnect and it say's the trans in a 46RH sales code DGR. It was close to the last of production, build date of march 24th 1993. The sticker under the hood lists it as A518, but this says 46RH, and thoughts?

I believe those are the same transmissions going by different names. 46RH: 4 is for 4 speeds, 6 is relative strength, R is for rear wheel drive, H is for Hydraulic shift.

Luke, look under the bed on the passenger side and you should see that severe duty trans cooler. That option was good for another 2,000 lbs. GCVW rating.

It sounds like a great find!

I hope it was a great find. Don't see how I could go wrong? Another addition to my collection of early 90's Dodge products. All ready have a 92' 350 club cab 4x4, and a 91' Stealth RT with low miles I bought from the original owner who was an old lady who kept it in the garage. If I could go back in time 15 years I'd have the coolest vehicles available! Oh well, I am always behind the times, but I like having a bunch of old obsolete Dodge's!
