My 89 ctd will not heat enough, on a long trip I can hardly get it up to 170f with an average of 140f. Keep in mind this engine is on a f350 and the ford radiator is more than twice the size than the one on the dodge.
I have blocked the radiator but it is still hard so My next step is the t-stat. What options are there for this engine?
I need something that will open at 200f or more so that the engine can get up to temperature and I can use the heat. Does anyone have a part # I can use at the local parts store or something I can order at the cummins dealer?
Thank You.

They make a 192* T-stat but if you cant open a 180* you'll never open a 192*. Remember Diesels don't build heat until you USE them.
Are you still running the mechanical fan? Perhaps it's time to switch to an electric.

a word of cation on t-stats, I ran two different parts store units, one was a cheapie that didn't work right, and actually ended up sticking closed and costing me a head gasket
. I also ran a spendy parts store one, it also did not work properly. It would not open until the engine temp was almost too hot, and then it would cycle hot and cold. I now have a cummins t-stat, and while it does get hotter than it used too before it opens, it doesn't cycle like the parts store one did. Hope this helps a little.

That isn't going to happen.
Well I got a 180f t-stat since I could not get the 192f I heard of. I drove the truck for less than 1/2 hour and it warmed up to 180f
. It will go down but it comes right back up to 180f, since I have the radiator still blocked with cardboard. I like the results so far since I will have heat on this truck and I do need a little on the feet at least.
Thank You all.
