I have used that same Royal purple oil, and I have also used Mobil One 5W-30 for a few 'Rag oil changes as it was on sale.

I was happy with the shifting using both options.
Did you ever work out some/what PTO coolers you are going to use?.

I got sidetracked on the coolers. There are a few things that are going to have to wait until after I get this thing rolling.

If you wait till later, it will motivate you to change the 5W-30 as your installing the PTO covers coolers.

very true.

It needs to be changed now because it has gear oil in it.I think my dad did that though so it probably has just been run around the yard a couple times.

I have had a lot of people bad mouth the Getrag when we are talking Cummins trucks.
I usually ask them what sort of fluid they run in it.
Gear oil is the pretty common answer…no wonder why they are having lubrication issues in their 'Rag.

I see some guys putting out some pretty high horsepower/torque numbers through Getrags..They don't seem to complain much.

I just put 6 quarts of that Royal Purple 5w30 in the getrag with oil coolers last week. Then found out the tailshaft housing has a bit of a weep. Should've resealed the 'rag I guess. Too unnerving to pull it again to seal it up properly.

I'm using 5w50 full synthetic motor oil on two of my Getrags. I like how it shifts and no problems. $32 for a 5L jug when its on sale.
