Nothing too heavy?? Just a sled now or then!! Pay now or pay again later, I'd get the best tc period! I don't think 600-700 will do.

If I recall, DTT's converters are in the $600 range. Can't go wrong there.

I`m in a similar boat, my rear main seal has progressed from a occasional drip to a steady (and very messy) drip. I`m figuring while i have the trans unbolted I`d toss in a converter but I also can`t decide who`s to go with, altho after reading EVERY old post there is I`m kind of leaning towards a Hughes (don`t have the scratch for a DTT).

Don't waste the time or money on anything else, get the DTT TC.

I have DTT; I've dragged the 5er 50,000 miles over the last four years. Check also with Suncoast Converters down here in the Florida panhandle; I've heard good words about their TripleLoc.

Yep....I'd suggest the DTT as well...mine has worked like gold...
Also, you should consider the two related components as well...the flexplate and the VB.
You can get a good shift kit put in to help raise your pressures a tad and help reduce the slippage...which by the way will also help you transfer more of the underhood $$$ you spend, to the wheels..

Man, I wish I knew you were done is FL DBF, I was down there in August getting a Suncoast tranny and TC, oh well, We have a place in Ft. Walton. Ok back to the subject at hand. If I can remember what DTT, ATS, and every one elsetold me, There isn't such a thing as a triple lock for NOT-LOCKUP Tc'S. That is why TC's for these truck are sometimes half a less because they don't have the high-tech internals. I think my TC was $720, and I can almost guarantee you that it has more machining time than any other TC on the market for the A-518/46-rh. Plus they use the one-piece cover that they use on the 47-rh's. I think every other company I called, told me, "No, they aren't billet because they don't make enough heat to need the billet housing". I know everyone here runs DTT for many reasons, probply the biggest because everyone else has one and likes it but it is OK, to try something new. By the way Suncoast has a 36 months warrenty on the trans, I think longer on the TC's (can't remember, I don't worry about it).

It wouldn't have worked out anyway, cause we were out of state. Maybe some other time when you come down.

DTT was much better known than Suncoast when I bought my transmission from Dodge and TC/VB from them, and I lived in Virginia then so the distance wasn't a big factor. If I'd moved here earlier, I'd have had to look at Suncoast much more seriously. I may just have to go see them anyway just to find out where they are and who they are.

You are correct on the non-lockup TC being easier to manufacture. But I could swear I saw someone discussing methods of putting a lockup TC in front of the 518. IIRC, you had to put a transition piece between the engine and transmission to make room for the bigger TC and get a wire into the transmission to control lockup. Do a search on something like "+lockup +518" or something like that and you might find it if you're still interested.

Regards, DBF
