tach question

i want to hook up a tach on my truck but there does not seem to be an easy way to do it. i dont really want to do it like in the sticky with the sensor and my truck is too old to have the plug in front of the valve cover. but my dad was saying that he heard about people running them off the alternator but did not know much about it. so i was wondering if anyone knew how to do it, or had one hooked up like that on their truck? any info would be welcomed. thanks,Ryan

The isspro R8912 mag pick up is easy to apply on the balencer. I have it on my 89 and it works good. Also there is no calibration needed with this setup.

I've got an auto meter diesel one in my truck that straps to the alternator. It works pretty good. You have to buy the diesel tach and then it comes with the pickup.
