tach install
A few questions
Hi guys I have read throught the forums and have some questions.
1 i would like to hook up a tach to my truck, it is a 92 with 5 spd, i understand there is a factory wiring harness available but I was wondering if my old tach for a gasser would work.
2 i have read that there is a lubrication problem with the 5 spd and was wondering if this is why my synchros feel stiff and like to almost grind a little when shifting.
3 Another thing I almost forgot, the guy i bought this thing from put new 16" rims on and big mudder tires and now the speedo is out by about 10-15kmh/hour, what can be done to retune the speedo is it a gear on the transmission somewhere or is it electronic.
Other than that this new purchase seems to be okay, oh yeah except I just did my first fuel mileage check and it seems around 14mpg which is about 6 less than I had hoped.
Thanks

Isspro makes a plug-in tach. Autometer has an alternator tach that works well. Some guys have had good results with a cheapo gasser tach set on 4 cylinder, if you have one laying around it's worth a try.
A lot of uninformed people put gear lube in Getrags. This makes them shift terrible until they get good and hot. Try some synthetic 5W-30, or a dedicated trans lube like Royal Purple Synchromax or Redline MTL.
The speedo is electronic, there are converter boxes you can use to correct the signal from the VSS.
