suggestions- code 45

what great site,

anyone have an idea on correcting a code 45, checked
the connections at tranny and all look good, fluid level ok,
dont know if the tranny has ever been serviced, the
truck is a third owner with no service history before
218,000 miles, truck runs great but seems not to go
into overdrive here lately and mileage has dropped over
the last few months to 19.0mpg

guess i should first, put a meter on the selonoid to
see if its open and replace if necessary, any other
suggestions, thanks

How do you check the codes on these things ???
BTW 19.0 mpg sounds good to me. I average 16.0 on my '93

I have a 93 also and can say that when its cold out it will not go into OD until the trans warms up to a certain point and above 60 mph. in the hot months it goes into OD by 50 and much sooner on my commute. My owners manual says this is normal??? I also run both trans coolers which prolongs it. I get a consistent 20.5 empty at 65 to 75 mph.

Re:suggestions- code 45

Is your TPS operating properly. With your engine off and your key in the ON position, use the middle wire from the TPS into the harness, it should read at 1 volt, + or - a little. Then if you open your throttle to WOT, it should jump an extra 2.75 volts, + or - a little. Adjusting this changes when your tranny shifts into OD.
