Vibaration

Hey Guys....I'm Getting a vibaration from my truck that I can't figure out, Hope you can help. It will start all of the sudden going down the road at any speed above about 55 or so. Sometimes it will go on for miles and miles, and sometimes it will only last for a mile or less. Makes no difference what kind of road I'm on (smooth or rough). I'm sure it's not a tire, I also checked the ball-joints, tie-rods and front end stuff like that. ANY IDEAS?!!?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Re:Vibaration

have you checked the u-joints and slip yokes? How about the motor, tranny, and t-case mounts?

Re:Vibaration

This sounds identical to a problem I had. The vibration would start at about 55-60 and get so bad that by 75, the truck felt unsafe. Everything appeared to be OK underneath. Turns out I had a front u-joint at was, for all practical purposes, froze up. Ended up bending the yoke attempting to remove it. New yoke, u-joints and rebalancing and all was better.

Re:Vibaration

I also suggest looking at the u-joints. I had the same problem and that was exactly it.

If it wasn't intermittent like you say, I would suggest checking the tires.

Re:Vibaration

Okay Guys ...I have checked and replaced all U-joints...No change. My joints didn't look that bad in the first place but I figured with 90,000 miles or so on it, It wouldnt hurt any to change them.. Do you all think it could be the carrier bearing going bad, I cant feel any slop or anything in it, but I'm running out of Ideas.

By the way the truck is a two wheel drive...

thanks

Re:Vibaration

Have you checked to see if all your tires are still balanced good? If you threw some weights on one side that would make it vibrate more than you would think.

Re:Vibaration

I had the problem of the tire wearing slightly different and needed to rebalance it. Once I did that, shake went away.
