stubborn fan clutch

Wanted to know if anyone has a trick to get the fan clutch nut unscrewed from the engine, yes I know it has left hand threads. It is so tight I couldn't get it loose with a big cresent wrench and a large mechanics prybar trying to hold the pulley. The bolts are so small that I actually bent one a little with the prybar. Usually this clutch design has 4 holes drilled in the associated pulley for a pulley holding tool, but not this one!

It has to come off though locks and unlocks at idle, hot or cold doesn't matter.

Go to Napa and buy the fan clutch removal kit. Comes with a pulley holder and flat 36mm fan clutch wrench.

fan pulley nut

When we did the tabbing of the KDP-we used an impact chisel to break it loose and retighten it afterwards!

Have you tried using a hammer on the wrench yet or are you still trying to get it off with brute force? I've removed nearly 50 of the suckers and more than half of them required the use of a hammer - so pick up your favorite BFH and commence to beatin'!

when you get it off make sure you put some anti-seize on it before reinstalling it

Snap-on makes a tool kit that uses a hook shaped wrench and an extension for an air chisel that will get any fan off. I did a KDP for a guy who had a Horton electric clutch on his truck, and he borrowed that tool set from a friend because the Horton uses a bigger nut. The air hammer spun that sucker right off.
