Stripped Fuel pump bolting information
Stripped Fuel pump bolting information
I'll make it quick and then I'll ad some back story.
I'm trying to figure out what the thread size for the 3 bolts that bolt the ve pump to the timing case are so I can helicoil one. I'm also trying to figure out if the timing case hole is through drill or if it's a blind hole.
Back story:
First thing I did to Grandpa's truck when I inherited it was turn the fuel pin and clock the ve pump but loosening the bolts and rotating it up toward the block. Well I was a little green when it came to fasteners and I wrenched down on pump bolt too hard when retightening it and I felt the treads let go.
I didn't do anything after that. The threads gave that first little bit and since I had the other two bolts in I just left it.
6 years later now and I want to do the kdp but I am trying to make sure that I'm prepared to fix my mistake when I have the cover off. I'm afraid to pull out a bolt and check myself because of the already compromised 33% holding power. I'm afraid if I do I may not get the pump back on untill I've fixed that thread. I'm also not against drilling out and tapping a bigger bolt but I'd have to know if it was a through hole. Thank you. Any advice is appreciated.

Looks like a number of links in the FAQ section are now AFU so I couldn't find any help for you there. The KDP has been addressed many times in the 1st gen section so have you tried a search? May not give you the actual thread size but IIRC there was a picture of the gear case which will tell you if the holes go through or not. If it were me, I'd find the closest standard bolt that fits the IP slots and helicoil all the holes to match.
Those are not bolts that hold the IP to the case...there are studs that are in the case and then there are nuts used to secure the IP in place. Now I have never had to replace one of those studs so do not know what thread they are...Metric for sure but beyond that I do not know. I'm pretty sure they will be a blind threaded hole and not drilled through to the inside of the case.
