Exclamation Timing Bump help!

I'm in the middle of bumping my timing. I've loosened the three bolts that hold the pump to the case, and the bolt that holds the bracket. I've taken the afc banjo bolt off. I can barely get the pump to move. I feel like I'm going to break something. What do I need to do? Should I remove the fuel line also? Is it best to pull up from the bottom of the pump? HELP!

Usually people put a ratchet strap on the top of the pump, secure the strap to something on the passenger side of the vehicle, I used the steel I-beam in my barn, and ratchet it over slowly till you get it where you want.

Is it THAT hard to move? You can't move it by hand?

And where do you attach the hook of the ratchet strap to on the pump? The top of the pump or do you go all the way underneath?

It looks like the adjustment slots on the pump may be maxed out. I can pull the top of the pump away from the engine fine. But I can't push it towards the engine at all. Even with a ratchet strap on it, it didn't want to hardly budge. Any suggestions, anyone?

mine took a bit of force to get it to move also. I attach the hook to the top of the AFC cover. I bent the hook a little to fit the AFC better.

What did you attach the other end of the strap to? And did you have to hold pressure on the pump with the strap while you tightened the bolts or did it stay put once you got it to move?

i went down to the frame rail. Yes you will have to keep tension on the strap while you tighten down the pump.

i used a 4x4 on the valve covers andput the one end of the strap to the exhuast and the other on the top part of the pump and just ratchet away and keep the ratchet strap tight while you tightened the pump up..

if you're in a shop just go to anything, but I just did it off of the fender. I heard a little creaking but it was ok. I can tell my truck has had some front end bumping in the past, so I heard things straightening out. I slowly ratcheted it over, tightened my bolts, and released the straps. WHen I let them go I heard the front end straighten back out

Later found out that there are 2 loose bolts up front that probably allowed that little bit of noise.

Doesn't that put a lot of pressure on the valve cover with the strap? Mine was flexing and I chickened out and backed off.

I layed a 2x4 across it to evenly distribute the load, and popped the valve cover's cover off as well for the bump.

UPDATE...Just got back from a test run. Everything's good. Nothing broke. A little more rattle at idle, but that's ok. I never expected it to be that hard to pull over. Thanks to everyone for all your input. By the way, what's the worst that could happen if you lose both washers off the boost tube banjo nut? I guess I'll be giving the Dodge dealer a call in the morning. Don't ask me how it happened. Gravel driveway, dimly lit flashlight...

Yep, just done mine last Sunday. Ratchet strap on the top of the pump going over the valve covers with a 2x4 under it going to the iner fender to one of the holes drilled into it. Quite a bit of pressure on the strap since you are forcing the fuel lines to twist too. Also made my $1.47 13mm S-wrench right before the timing bump.
