Straight Pipe+Turndown = :)

Well lemme start out by sayin Ive been coming here for a while and Im only 16. For the past couple of years I have really gotten into the cummins performance stuff. I have learned many things about them from here and other sites(mainly here). As I do not have a cummins myself, my freind (who is also 16), his mom has a 92 2500 auto. Well for the past coouple of years Ive been pestering her about straight piping it. So today she gave in .We took it down to the shop, couple of cuts, bends and welds later we got it straight piped for $37 and we also put on a chrome turndown tip for an extra $45. So we fired her up and WOW. It sounds awesome. Not too raspy, and actualy very qiuet in the cab even with the windows down, but it sure sings when you get on it . Cant hardly notice it at idle with the windows down. Ive heard the stock 3 inch sounds too raspy but I actualy like it (Id still probably like 4 inch better). Dont notice any drone on the freeway but we have yet to tow with it. Im hoping the fuel milage gods will be looking down on us . She wanted to keep the stock muffler just in case she didnt like it straight piped but when we got home she said "throw that thing away, we wont need it anymore" As long as the milage doesnt drop (if thats even possible). BTW the only other "mod" on the truck now is a k&n filter (It never sees offroad so it should be fine). It could actualy could be a bit louder . Best $82 ever spent on the truck . Also the turbo spooling down sounds sweet when you shut it off. Oh and I almost forgot, I also plan on doing something with that stock airbox to make the turbo louder .

Great job Deezle98. shoving your freinds mom down the slippery slope is a pretty good idea. wont cost you to much $$$$$.She should see a little better fuel milleage. but probably not a whole lot. next you need to talk her into letting you play with the pump then she will be real .

Yeah, I hear BOMBing is addictive . She would like stacks but it has a canopy . The truck has over 240,000 miles on it and no problems so it derserves to breath freely .

If you want to show her what a set of stack's look like, look in my gallery. then she might get rid of the canopy.

Yeah but she almost needs a canopy up here with the rain and all because she hauls furniture in the winter time. Also when my friend dropped me off yesterday I told him to take off hard and man it sounds sweet and its louder than you think when your outside. You have no idea how many videos and soundclips I had to show her to convince her to do it .

While you had it in the shop, did you get the crimp over the rear axle removed? Seems that Dodge crimped the 3" pipe down to under 2" right over the axle, probably for clearance reasons. Removing that restriction will also help it's breathing.

UPDATE: Well we just took a trip to the oregon coast and got an average of 21.4 MPG with a lot of idling and some town driving! Up from 18.5 MPG. Cant beat that! Also couldnt even hear it with the windows up.
