Biltit [and others here] will recommend looking into a used HE 351W off a '05 to '07 , if I remember right.
it has the 12Cm exhaust housing already
I might use a HE 351W myself on my white crew.
I would like faster spool up with my 5 speed set up.
I run out of RPM before boost builds 15 PSI in 1st, 2nd and 3rd when I am unloaded.

I ran the 12cm housing on my stock turbo for a few years and loved the quick spool but I think it hurt it in the upper rpm. If I did it again I would try a 14cm.

Stock H1C is only good to about 25 PSI, then it begins to heat the air more than it benefits. Faster spoolup is a good thing, but once you get out of the turbo's efficiency you hurt yourself. Ther are better ways to spend your money, unless you can score a good deal and keep the mods mild.

You need the 60 mm upgrade first.

I like my HE351CW but I still need more turbo.

What truck is it going on? standard trans i would say he351cw for sure, auto guys seem to like a little larger exhaust housing than the 351.

The 351 is still just 60mm and small housing, its not the best turbo out there or anything. It is however one of the cheapest to get the most turbo that the majority of folks will need.

I will be going compounds with my 351 sometime soon, thats really the best option for more than a 351 if towing alot or heavy. IMO.

For manuals you need as quick spool up as possible, I say try the 351cw. It gets you best of both worlds.

ive set up 12cm h1c turbos with manual trans, the non gated housings are hard to find, and fit without pipe mods, they spool very well, with max pump adjustments on stock stix, the he351cw will give 30% more volume for more fuel

I'm running the 60mm housing on a stock H1C right now and I love the extra airflow over the stock 54mm. I'm also lucky due to the fact that my truck is a non-IC converted into an IC so have the 18cm housing for the exhaust side. I'm kind of having the same questions that you are but I have no problem pushing 35psi of boost WOT with the current setup. If it were me, using a manual truck, I would go with a 14cm (or possibly a 16cm) housing so you get a faster spool for the low end but don't outrun the turbo on the high end.

351cw+Stock IC sticks+WG tacked shut+pump turned up=40psi.

If going aftermarket injectors than you may need a functioning WG with the 351cw.

With a manual i wouldn't go bigger than 14 on the housing, spool-up is very important.

I can keep 10+psi between shifts.

I have yet to see someone do a back to back which shows the 351's 4"/9cm2 housing choke more than a H1C 3"/12cm2 on a 1st gen.
