H1C housing swap

Does anyone have any tips for getting the exhaust housing clamp bolt loose between the exhaust housing and the compressor?

Also, will the compressor and wheel from an intercooled turbo work with a non-intercooled turbo? I'm in the middle of swapping right now and any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

You mean the 4 bolts that hold the plates? I have always got them with an open end wrench. They won't come all the way out until you knock the husing loose.

You can swap the compressor sets if you have a good non-ic turbo laying around.

I have 3 of those 4 bolts loose, but I've messed up the head and rounded the corners a little bit so that's that. Do you have any tips for getting the compressor wheel off? If so I have another good compressor to put it in.

Thanks,

Dawson

The threads on the shaft are left-handed.

Vise grips or a cold chisel on the bolt.

What do you mean with the cold chisel/vise grip set up? And what about the tapping gently and getting it loose?

If the turbo is off the truck you can litteraly tap the compressor side of the shaft with the nut removed and it will wiggle right off.

I meant to try vise grips, and if that doesn't work try to hit it off with a chisel.

I think C\PRD was talking about the compressor wheel.

Yes Sir I was. The bolt in the housing, a good box end should turn it if it's not too bugard up. And given it's not under the oil in/outlet.

Well we got all ready to do the swap over, and realized the old turbo of mine we were using did not have the straps to hold it to the hot side with it, and his are locked down on his turbo, so well have to find mine before this project can be done. Right now he is having issues with the oil feed line though, hopefully we can get that taken care of.

Randy, I decided to just call it a night, and I'll call the Dodge house in the morning to see what's what.

The problem I am having is getting with the oil feed line between the top of the oil filter and the 90 degree "L/J" piece on top of the turbo where the steel braided line attaches on the turbo end. I can still see about two threads left on the 90 degree "L/J" piece, but I can't get it to tighten any more. I would think it is supposed to snug up against the "L/J" piece, but Randy seems to think it was showing those two threads when he first started trying to loosen it so we could get the wrench in there. Does anyone know if the oil line is supposed to fit flush/snug with the "L/J" piece, or are those two threads supposed to be visible like that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys for the tips about the wheel and compressor. But I'm still not sure about this oil line. If anyone has some input on how the oil line threads onto the turbo that would be great.

Thanks,

Dawson

I think there's a crush washer under the adapter fitting.

I finally got it all back together and going again. It turns out we tried to take the oil line off at the wrong spot because we couldn't break it loose right on the turbo. We messed up the original line so I got a new oil line and fitting and put them on today and got it going again. However, I think I'm hearing a slightly different sound from the turbo, and I wonder if anyone might know what it could be. It almost sounds like a very faint police siren. I'll try and see if I hear it again.

Thanks,

Dawson
