Still smoking Mega

As per my previous post, Starting hard and smoking clouds of white continues until the engine comes up to operating temp. Then it runs clear and starts normally for the day. The shop it went into could find no air leaks or other problems. From what I can tell it has to be the injectors sticking or leaking. I see some performance injectors from Pensacola Diesel for $229 for a new set of 6. They claim 25 to 40 hp increase. I wondered if anyone has had any experience with these. The injector pump I purchased from them has been fine. I have asked for more specs on the injectors and will post when I hear more.

Sorry as I have not read any other post or thread so this may have been explained, but are your grid heaters working?

Yes the grid heaters are working. Thanks for that Larry any experience is appreciated. The prices are great but not a lot of detail on their site. I have emailed with no response yet.

You get what you pay for...

Go with someone like DDP or SDX. Both have great products, well known, and respected.

Where are you in BC Rick I know in the south Okanagan it's almost getting to the point of plugging my truck in even with the heater grid working.

I have my truck plugged in, even down here on the coast. I have it on a timer that comes on 2 hours before I know I have to leave in the morning. truck fires right up, with little or no grid heater action.

I'm hopefully going to get my new injectors in on thursday, and hope that cures my smoking problem as well.

Hi 9mm I am north of Powell River, the temp is just above 0*C. I would plug it in but it lives in a parking lot at the end of the road til I come in by boat.

I'm looking forward to TC changing his injectors as his problem sounded
similar.

I did some checking on Pensacola Fuel Injection and there is a lot of unhappy customers. I may be suspecting my new pumps cold start advance.

I don't think it's the dynamic timing advance. All that does is advance the timing and fuel to full on start up. That's why they fire so fast and give that puff of black on start up.

Finally everything is great. The problem was that the pump I recieved was for an intercooled engine and of course mine is non I/C. I am amazed that it started at all. After changing back to the non I/C pump which just needed the fuel screw turned in a couple more turns I am a happy trucker. Now I know the non I/C pump is a little longer overall than the I/C and of course the cold start mechanism is powered in the first case and not in the second. Pump is turned up and timing advanced slightly and with the 366 spring it really pulls like a different beast. Happy, happy, happy!

I will be listing the rebuilt injector pump for 91.5 and later I/C engine in the classifieds.

Well good to hear you got it all figured out. The IC IP have smaller delivery valves compared to the Non-IC units. So maybe you were not getting enough fuel to your injectors...why that would cause heap big smoke I'm unsure of. Also the Non-IC KSB is powered differently then the IC ones.

Hi TC, My info is that it was the KSB. In the non IC it is powered when running and the opposite with the IC or visa versa. It is amazing that it started at all but it did. Just clouds of smoke and rough running til it got to operating temp and then ran great all day. Live and learn. I shouldn't have to touch it for a long time now, just going to enjoy it.
