Still waiting...Long bed Mega Cab....

It's been a while since I've been to this site. Any word on a Mega Cab with an 8' bed?

They better! That is the only truck/configuration that I'm looking forward to. A 6.7l Cummins/Aisin/MegaCab/Longbed/Dually.

Dodge still can't compete with the Ford or Chevy crew cab offerings because of the limited configuration as of right now. If they build the truck I mentioned above, I think it would take a large chunk of Ford/Chevy's marketshare.

Any comments from those "in the know"? It's getting close to new truck time, and I find myself considering crossing over to the dark side in order to get maximum utility from my $45K+ "investment".

I hope that dark side is GM because I'd be angry to buy a ferd $45k "paperweight."

You knew somebody would say it.

Just bought my Mega Cab a few weeks ago and the dealer said the longbeds should be an 07' model. They are supposed to be only in the DRW at first and then SWR later in the year.

Thanks Rockcrawler! Does anyone out there know when "they" start taking orders for '07? Can anyone with the "inside scoop" confirm or deny the long bed rumor?

Slightly off thread - (my apologies).... Are there going to be any new colors for the '07 model year?

I asked my dealer about long bed mega cab yesterday and they said the wheelbase on a megacab long bed would require the driver to have a CDL in order to drive it and the DC was try to get the law change so they could make them!

I don't know what the laws are so maybe some one who does can chime in on this??

what wheel base length would require a CDL?

I don't think so. My Brother's '06 F-350 crew cab long bed has a longer wheelbase than my MegaCab. It's something like 173" vs. the Megacab's (and Quad Cab long box) 160.5".

I say this is a dealer talking about what he dosen't know about...

You can get a 202" wheelbase limo that dosen't require a CDL.

I am a dealer, and I can tell you it is not coming any time in the near future if at all. Definetly not in 07'. And the part about needing a CDL is total BS, just another one of my fellow dealers with his head up his backside. DC is having a hard time deciding if there will be enough demand for such a critter to justify a new longer frame design and retooling to make it work. I believe there would, especially in our market area as about 80% of our new vehicle sales are Ram 3500 diesels. The problem is the men who get to make this decision live in a suburb of Detroit(or in Germany) and live in a subdivision and drive around in 300C's and Chargers and play golf. They don't have the slightest idea what we farmers and ranchers and construction workers and other rural customers need or want, but unfortunetly for us, they get to make the decision.

I would suggest that they go out and get a F-350 crew cab long bed dually with the Tow Boss package, hook up something equivalent to my 5th wheel and head cross-country. If the 6.oh-no! doesn't blow up, maybe they'd understand what would sell to those of us who tow large RVs.

For Dodge's sake, they had better hope the 6.4L twin-turbo turns out to be a POS.

I just talked to my Fleet Manager and he said there will not be a Megacab longbed in 2007
