stereo

Got a new head unit at Chinamart tonight. SPent 25 more than I needed to, but the one I got seems pretty simple to use. Hit the up or down button, and it goes one station that way. Hold it a few seconds, and it seeks. If only they could make all radios like that.

I tried to eject the CD that was in my old one the other day and had to hit the button 5 or 6 times, and it only spit it out enough that I could just get a grip on the edge to pull it on out. It's a Sony X PLOD. Whatever an X PLOD is.

Might leave my left door speaker unhooked til I can check the wiring closer. I'll need to figure out how to pull the plastic cover off the inside of the kick panel.

Here goes nothing.

The x-plod is the cheap series of sony. cool name but none of it is any good.

I either stick with Alpine or Pioneer these days, I think Kenwood has been slipping lately. the last few i've used were glitchy

Alpine or Pioneer are good choices as mentioned, but look into JL Audio. Sometimes a little pricier but good quality stuff.

Pioneer even has a high-end called Premier. Don't really know the difference between the 2 other than a name and price but you get what you pay for .

I prefer the look of a factory unit. I have a stereo out of an 06 with the big ***** on either side ( makes volume adjusting a breeze). I would rather spend extra money on good speakers and a good amp. If I had to choose an aftermarket deck it would probably be an alpine because a few of their models have a nice big ****.

I've got an alpine CDA-9830, with 4 Sony gtx series 6x9's. Two in each door and I've got two in a custom center console I made. They're powered by a 500wx4ch MTX 4244 AMP. Then I've got 2 JL 10w0v2's in separate boxes behind each seat (I've got bucket seats out of a neon instead of the bench.) And a 4000w Lanzar amp. (its not really 4000 watts, lol)

It gets pretty **** loud, and sounds incredible. You can fit a lot in a first gen, even a single cab.. if you package it right.

I'd like to stick a factory radio in it but some ******** cut my one plug out. I have the door speakers, the others don't work, so I taped the ends off and set the fade to full forward.

The unit I got is a Dual. One big **** for volume adjustment, and two somewhat not tall, but long, buttons for seek and tune. It's heavy and has two faceplates that stack up and unfold, and are motorized. It's a bit bright, too, for nighttime, I think. Typical aftermarket radio. The boss put a Jensen in my planter tractor and the display can be adjusted for brightness, it's nice. Maybe I should have gone to the JD dealer for the radio. Probably cost twice as much though.

I had to get the radio working. I did it fast and dirty, I'll have to do it better later. I'm loading up a ton of barb wire tomorrow night to take in for scrap on Saturday morning and going out east of Lincoln to pick up my grill guard. 9-10 hour round trip would be quite long without a radio.

I've got a wanted ad in the classifieds for a second-gen AM FM CD (with or without cassette) radio with plugs. I have a feeling I'll be waiting a while to find one. I'm leary about fleabay, as I got one for the Chevy I had, and the thing wouldn't eject, it was flat wore out. Of course I didn't get it in and programmed for 4 or 5 months after I got it, either.

The one plug is there. They spliced into the wires a couple inches up from it and put duck tape over the end. The one splice had no tape on it and could have shorted. The other plug is missing.

Oh, and unlike a previous owner, I put the book in the glovebox so if I have to change it again, I know what color wires go to what speaker so I don't have to sort it out again.

I also pulled the plug and put it back on the wiper delay module and they are working right again.

What's a stereo?
Mine doesn't work in the flatbed, though the hauler has a decent stock CD/Cassette player.

I seldom ever even listen to one while driving.

Mark.
