steering stablizer bracket

Have any of you installed a steering stablizer bracket to front end to help the "wandering" of your trucks?
just wondering cause a auto shop up here has sold hundred's to us 1st gen's.
I guess we have a weak spot near the steering box where it flexes?

Yes I had a duel stablizier kit on mine but I also had 40 in tall tires on it the frame loves to flex in the area of the steering box but if you go to the cross over steering it helps with turning and you will loose the stupid bracket that loves to crack on the box area .

Do you mean the steering stabilizer itself, the shock style setup, or the part that acts as a gusset between the front crossmember and steering box area to help prevent flexing?

the gusset style.I don't know if I need an alignment or this stabilzer or both? My truck stays pretty good on the road but if it helps preserve my front end I'll try it.

Hello,

I installed the "gusset" type from PSC and at first I thought it did nothing. But after some highway miles I can definitely say that wander is almost gone. I think if I increased my tire pressure from the current 53 psi to 60+ it would be totally gone.

Hello,

It is for the 3rd gen. They did have ones for earlier trucks but in the past couple of weeks it has been taken off the web site. Here is the link for mine. I'd call and ask what is up with removing the other stabilizer?

cracked frame

don't mean to hijack this thread but someone mentioned the frame cracking at the steering box. and mine just did that so i was wondering if you can move that steering box somewhere else. frame shop says it will cost me 500 to fix so i was wondering which would be better and or cheaper. thx.

Hello,

To minimize future frame damage you will definitely want the "gusset" type. I have hear of that happening before.

This is what you want to reinforce the frame:

And thanks to Ace you can do this for extra support:

And you could always do this:
