D70 brakes?

After reading the stickie I know I need a special socket for removing the nut to get the drum off, my question is will that same socket work on the front axle and how about my 14 bolt on my chev. Thanks.

no, the rear is a 2&9/16" and the front is special bolt with tabs needed in the socket for it to work. I don't know about the 14 bolt.

U don't NEED the socket. It just makes job a little easier. Just use a flat head screwdriver and hammer.

Thanks for the replies, I bought the socket at checker for like 16.00. The previous owner used a screw driver though. It definetly aint the same socket as the front and not sure on the 14 bolt yet but hopefully I'll get lucky.

The truck failed saftey for a 0 reading on the rear brakes so I pulled the driverside and they looked ok but a little oily, then the other side showed why, the bearing just fell out when I removed the hub and the self adjusting cable was broke and missing parts plus some of the other springss were broke. Also someone has spliced a new axle tube in between the 2 bearings, they did a good job though but didn't put it back togeather very well. Brakes work great now.

that is as long as some idiot before you did not tighten it down to god knows how tight. Plus, its kinda hard to set it to the right torque specs without one.
