Stack on with timing bump... more white smoke?

Finally did all my new exhaust and single black mitre stack. Looks good with the white truck and black dually rims. Also bumped the timing 3/16". Sounds terrible at idle!! BUt does have some good mid range power. Anyway, even with just MODERATELY heavy acceleration (like highway entrance) I see quite a bit white smoke in my rear veiw. I used to always look at my side mirror for the BLACK smoke, but never noticed so much haze.

Is the timing the cause of some white smoke, or am I just noticing it more now its plainly in my rearview mirror? I'm gonna turn it back down to the common 1/8" bump, but wondering what you guys think.

ALso have heavy boost leak! since my problem with ignition (see other post), I've been flipping the shut down lever on the injection pump to shut it down, and I'm noticing its leaking bad around my air horn. Oh well... Cooler Tubz neet to go in with a new gasket it seems

no one knows if the timing will add more white smoke. Even when it's warm in 80* temperatures?

I bumped my 89 atleast 3/16'ths and I have no white smoke. And yes, mine sounds like a clatterpillar at idle too. With a boost leak you really should have black smoke.

Are you sure you rotated the pump the right way (top towards the head)? I think when the timing is retarded they will smoke white.

If you advanced the timing you should not be seeing white smoke.

white smoke is a symptom of lower combustion temperatures or improperly burnt fuel. increasing/advancing the timing will create higher egt's (higher combustion temps), thus, decreasing/retarding the timing will lower the egt's/combustion temperatures. maybe have your injectors tested. see if they're opening at the right pressures and atomizing properly. if they're stock, they should be around 240-245 bar (approx. 3500psi i think?). it's stamped on the injector body under the hold down nut.

Brand new DDP 3 injectors with less than 5,000 miles on them. Yes, the pump is advanced, not retarded.

I do know that cold combustion chambers create white smoke, and I thought that advancing timing would be better (hence the KSB's function). It's not a cloud or something, just a light haze. When I pull in and idle it's not noticable. But if I shut the truck off for several minutes and restart it seems like a light haze.

I think the haze I see at moderate aceleration is due to my boost leak. It's probably more gray or black, but just thin enough that it looks more like a whiter haze in my rear view.

I"ll look into maybe a little air intrusion, but I've had zero problems starting it up.

On the plus side, my mileage was awesome. My best before when I put in the injectors was 17.5mpg. On the 160 mile trip between Mass and Connecticut I got 20.5mpg! My ride home my TPS was acting up so LOTS of full throttle in 3rd gear to maintain 70mph untill it would shift back into overdrive. I forgot the ONE allen key needed for me to blast the TPS with electro clean which usually helps. Anyway, doing this most of the way from Connecticut to Maine (380 miles) I still got 17.8mpg! Not bad for a slush-o-matic dually I thought.
