Spare Tire.

Has anyone found a way to install a spare tire crank up system from the newer trucks.
To get my spare tire up under the truck I have to use my 1.5 ton roller jack under the frame and jack it up in place.

I a, bumping this one up to the top. What are the options for spare tires. All of my trucks and my grandpa's have had the spare in the bed. I hate this I want to put it up underneath, I am not so old that I can't crawl under her and get the tire. What did these trucks come with factory? Can a carrier out of second gen work?

im using the original cross bar, holding up a bfg 35", man that thing gets heavy, laying down i use my knees to hold it up, still; holds it up well, i cant say there is another option when it comes to room, and those crank ups arent dependable, ive seen a lot of broken cables which leaves you no option

How does the original cross bar work? Please show picture or explain how the bar mounts. Does it bolt to the frame. I am sorry to sound so naive. But seriously, the '77, '85, '90, '91, nor '93 that I am familiar with never had the factory mount.

just a piece of channel with 2 long all thread studs, the nut to tighten it up has an eyelet to use the lug nut bar to remove it (more leverage) its very sturdy, very manual.

With my 2 wheel drive the tire is darn near inacessible and if its the middle of winter and you have to lay on the freezing ground and loosen those to bolts it sucks thankfully I haven't had to do it yet but I am deff keeping a spare in the box!!!!

Send me a digital camera and I'll take a picture of mine. I don't know if it is from a later model or some after market thing though. Something the PO did and look real flimsy to me.

Not a bad way to roll Mark. However, My three hole dog box will take half of the bed and being young it has to ride in the stock position. Does anyone have pic of the stock set up. I think I got a bit of an idea from DJ, but would like a pic.

How did you get a 35 to fit?
I'm runnin 315/75-16's and there's no way it'll fit between the frame rails and the hitch.
Picture?

I don't have it installed yet, but my old 86 gasser had the tire mounted up inside the bed. At the front of the box behind the drivers side of the cab. Worked very well and didn't really affect the utilization of the truck box.

Here's the best pics I could find...never really took a pic of it by it's self.....

The Ramcharger swing out deal that mounts to the edge of the bed and tailgate worked great on my raggedy old gasser, I just cant bring myself to hack up my Crew Cab for one. And with a Ramcharger tank in my truck, I think the bed is about my only opition. Although, I have run without a spare for probably 20,000 miles now. Borrowed time, I know.
