Talking It RUNS!

Well, just like any problem worth having, if you throw money at it, it'll go away Took me a half hour to stab in my brand new bosch VE. Primed via the lift pump till I got fuel out the overflow, cracked 1 3 and 6, cranked 10 revolutions and fired up! I've got a tired injector--I could hear it miss for a while, but after the test drive it cooled out pretty nice. The good news? It's waaay smoother and tighter feeling than the old pump. It fires even quicker, if that's possible and it just runs plain sweeeet! The bad news? It's an absolute P-I-G! Now I know how folks with stock trucks feel Absolutely Zero smoke! Floor it in every gear, etc etc. I have a year warantee IF I leave the lock collar on the full boogie screw and the high idle screw. The AFC is fair game, though... AND, I have about 2 1/2 threads before the lock collar on the boogie screw. Now I'm thinking crank it to the lock collar, get a PDR fuel pin and a hybrid---that'll have to last me the warantee period. In any event, I got a good deal through the shop I work at and man, if I didn't already say it, the new pump is veeery smooth Definitely worth the trouble---I've missed my truck!

Glad to hear it was simple. Too bad it was expensive.

I'm very pleased with the way it runs, after a bit more shakedown today. I cranked the timing ahead (just lined up the lines on install) and that brought temps way down (they were too high for how little fuel is going through it). Gonna crank it ahead some more tomorrow---the engine's still real quiet. Pulled the afc cover and backed the smoke screw flush, rotated the pin to the deep side and ran the star wheel down about 75%. Now I get a iddy biddy bit of smoke if I load her down low in 4th and 5th Driveability is great even underfueled with the 18cm (soon to be 12cm w/g). I just got back from a test drive with my boost gauge hooked back up...I was able to hit 23psi wot in 4th and 5th. I've got two and a half threads before the lock collar, so there's some fun to be had yet It's neat to start with a clean slate and tune as I go---I'm very pleased overall with the results so far. Thanks to everyone who made an effort to help---sane input is always appreciated when you're in a panic! Got my fiver/gooseneck hitch today (they're bigger than I thought, 400 pounds, at least) so there's some weight for ride quality and there'll be a 30ft fiver to go with it on friday---things are looking up, finally

Let us know in a few weeks how much difference it makes in your fuel mileage.
Seems like with more pressure you should get better atomization and economy.

That's great!!

Might want to try to get a base-line mileage before you start carrying around that extra 400 lbs of steel -- I wonder if it will make a difference

I also am curious if you can duplicate your mileage/afc setting experiment that we were talking about in the other thread -- though that may not really work out/be more trouble than its worth.

Most importantly, though, it's good to hear that you are enjoying your truck

Well, I bumped my timing some more today and my boost #'s are looking more realistic for the fuel I'm pushing---about 21psi under heavy load in 5th. Still, I'm very pleased with the way it drives with the AFC tuning and extra timing. I'm gonna throw on the 12cm w/turbomaster I bought from Wannadiesel in hopes of making the most out of the fuel I have...I'm actually running about as hot now as I was with my old pump cranked way up and I think it's because the fuel I have just won't spool the 18cm.
