RPMS On the Hwy

Hey i was just wondering what some of your trucks rev at and on the hwy

I have a 92 powerram 250 4x4 brand new trans (new venture 5 speed) get rag was junk ,it just dosn't seem right,

The trucks axle tag reads 3.54, 31' tall tire and a final fifth gear ratio of .73 why does it rev so high still its at like 2500 @65mph and the tach can't be out cause it says idles at 700 rpm,
is this normal after about 70 its just screaming and falls flat on its face. could someone swapped 4.10s in it??

Thanks Im new to diesels

That certainly doesn't sound right. My truck (see signature) is turning 2500 RPM at 75 MPH, and that's with 4.10 gears!

Your tires sound to small for correct replacements. my 93 250 with stock replacements seem to be closer to 33" tall. Also my 93 350 I had would just fall off at 75 or so like yours with 3.54s. The 250 will pull 100 + eaisly with 3.54s. Time to bomb the pump and governer setup. According to my calculations at 65 with your set up you should be pulling 1822 rpm and with 4.10s at 2110rpm in 5th gear.

The tick marks on the tach don't make any sense, but at 2 grand, I'm nearing 80.

440FURY,

Take a look at the following site and you can specifically calculate the mph and rpm for the various gears by entering the tire size and gear ratios.

http://www.f-body.org/gears/

The following are the numbers for the Getrag and the stock tires on my 92 CTD.

RPM 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th
500 2 4 8 13 17
600 3 5 10 16 21
700 3 6 12 19 24
800 4 7 13 21 28
900 4 8 15 24 31
1000 5 9 17 27 35
1100 5 10 18 29 38
1200 6 11 20 32 42
1300 6 11 22 35 45
1400 7 12 23 37 48
1500 7 13 25 40 52
1600 8 14 27 43 55
1700 8 15 28 45 59
1800 9 16 30 48 62
1900 9 17 32 51 66
2000 10 18 33 53 69
2100 10 19 35 56 73
2200 11 19 37 59 76
2300 11 20 38 61 80
2400 12 21 40 64 83
2500 12 22 42 67 87

I'm at about 2000 rpm at about 70 mph in 5th which sorta agrees with the chart AIK posted. I'm also at about 1200 at 40
I have 3.54 gears 265/75 tires and the gutbag.
I can also hit 100 top end...but I "tuned" the governor to get there.
