rims from a ford?
rims from a ford?
friend of mine has some rims off a 3/4 ton ford... 8x6.5 .... 16x7 any idea if these would work on my truck? and are the 16x7 rims good for a 265/75 tires (i will try to get the year they are off of tomorrow.)
The older Ford rims should fit. It's the newer ('99 and up?) that changed lug pattern as far as I know. I've used Ford steel rims on mine but found that the center only had 3 hubcap lugs to snap the hubcap over and the Dodge has 4 hubcap lugs. My experience is that the stock hubcap often won't stay on the Ford rims.
Best bet is to look up the tire that you plan to get and get the manufacturer's recommended specs but I did some quick looking on the 'net and it looks like a 265 width usually calls for a 7"-8" or 7"-9" wide rim. Looks like they should work on the 7s but you are at a minimum recommended width. Too much pressure and you'll wear the center of the tread pattern out.
Don't forget about backspacing - with less backspacing combined with the wider wheel (7", vs. 6" stock Dodge) you will likely get some rubbing on the lower front edges of the fender openings when pulling in/out of driveways. Even with the stock 235/85/16s I had to do a little trimming to the moulding after going with aftermarket 16x7 wheels, and it will still rub if I have the wheels turned just right.
I have the Furd wheels on my truck with the 255-85x16. I painted then black and used the chrome lug nuts from the old wheels. I like the looks but it isn't for everyone. But hey, at least I got away from the 16.5" wheels.

Unless special built, all wheels should be O.E.M. offset.
What this means is that any extra width is outward, not inward; so rubbing springs, inner fenders, etc. should not be an issue.
The auto manufacturers do not make the wheels and the same company probably makes the steel wheels for Ford and Dodge.
When talking original equipment wheels with 8 on 6-1/2 pattern, here is how they can be traded from manufacturer to manufacturer:
Ford and Dodge wheels will fit Ford, Dodge, or Chevrolet.
Chevrolet wheels will not clear the hub on Ford or Dodge.
This holds true on both single wheel and dual wheel applications.
As for the 265-75-16 tires, they are O.E.M. size on many trucks that have 7" wheels from factory and they will look and work fine.
