Replacement front leaf springs?

Does anyone have experience with the Dayton or Husky springs that Rock Auto sells? They’re 6 leaf, 1900# rated. I recall the white sticker under the hood saying springs are rated something like that? I need springs for a winter beater plow truck, thanks for any feedback

Don't waste your time or energy replacing those springs with aftermarket unless you buy high quality units.

Take them out.

Drop them off to a local truck spring shop.

Have them add two leaves, re-arch to whatever height your heart desires, replace the bushings, and slap them back in with 3 new U bolts and be on your way.

If they can replace the main spring with a thicker unit, that would be even better, as our main springs are too thin to begin with. The aftermarket stuff can be "iffy" if you don't go to the right place.

Since getting my 2-leaf tapered packs, not spending $$$ toward stock 6 leaf stuff on a cummins truck that has work to do. They are a similar design to what you find on a 80-03 Fords.

All I can get now is a 3-leaf by Standens. The local shop I inquired with said they can bring them in and arch them up to 4" if I want.

EDIT: I doubled up the main leaf on a used stock set I have too. (cut the eyes off a ramcharger front leaf) No road miles yet, but I know it will work in a pinch and all it cost me was a zip disc.

Mine only have 4 leaves and are bent backward, I don’t want to reuse anything. I’ve been thinking of checking out Ford style springs, my 93 F350 rides way better than any first gen I’ve ever had. Besides the spring type the other difference is the shackle is in the front of the spring.

Ford springs are 3" wide and no easy way to use them without a Ford diff and wider front hangers.

Ford's front shackle isn't a solution... has enough issues there's kits to reverse them to 'Normal' (rear shackle).

Carrier Spring (Abbotsford, BC, Canada) is where the original 2-leaf versions were sold. Now it's a 3-leaf (thinner leafs) made by Standen's and can be ordered more widely through other shops.

I agree installing Ford stuff is not going to be the answer for your truck.
Especially if it is just a yard /plow truck / beater.

For what you want to do, I agree with U2slow. You should just make up a hybrid front spring using some extra, longer leaves from another W-250 leaf spring pack, if you have access to one cheaply.

I have been adding or removing leaf springs to get me the lift and ride I want on my 1st gens for decades.

Inetresting quirk... the main leaf on my '90 Ramcharger was thicker than the main on my W250 cummins truck. Both were stock.

Did you ever try that RC spring on the W250? I have a couple RCs sitting around.

Funny I noticed the rear main leaf on my 91.0 W-250 was thicker than another rear spring pack I had. I noticed this while I was making a custom rear pack for my '91.0 when I was doing a shackle flip and front of the rear, spring drop bracket install.

Not as-is... not thick enough pack and would have lost height.

What I did was combine them with rest of the pack in a '78 W300 C&C I have. (Immobile so far for any firmness evaulation.) One caveat is the RC and most older trucks' eye bushings are sized for 1/2" bolts.

Its basically rusty trash with a 400B/NP435/203... and a flatdeck I want to move over to my '93. Currently using it a test station for front suspension mods as the 60 is long gone.
