So why did you replace the head gasket in a new engine?
Seriously, what a clean rig. Nice write up.

That was a great posting. I would like to know how many miles you had on that motor, because it looked new.

Thanks for the kind words folks.

I've always kept the engine bay clean. Not spotless, but clean enough that reaching for something, you don't draw back and find oily dirt on your elbow.

Most every time I've pulled a large component out, I'll wash it and paint it if it's beat-up OEM. It's actually easy to keep these engines clean IMO.

The short block is OEM and has just shy of a quarter million miles on it. The removed working just fine head was replaced with a new ported head maybe 3000 miles ago.

The engine has seen three head-gaskets now. The OEM unit was replaced mainly due to an antifreeze leak right there under the thermostat housing at about 240K. Head-gasket number two failed not long afterward due to a freak instance of head-stud nuts splitting. Head-gasket number three is doing just fine seeing the occasional 65 psig plus boost.

Im getting fuel in my oil and after checking everything else it seems the head gasket is the next step... I've never done it before but did take the IP and injectors out and put back in..how hard was it when you did it and how long did it take? Did you have the head milled and what did that run you cost wise?

DID this kit come with new bolts or did you reuse the old ones? I'm about to do my head gasket as well

So you have already checked that the front seal is not bad in your IP nor is your lift pump diaphragm bad
