Removing the injection pump??
Removing the injection pump??
Hey guys,
The time has come and tomorrow I will be removing the injector pump in the old girl. What kind of tool is needed to remove the gear? Will a steering wheel puller work and can I borrow one at an auto parts store? I think I have everything else covered, but didnt know what tool was required for that particular matter. Thanks in advance...

Yep a steering wheel puller will do it. I used a cheap T style Craftsman wheel puller. If you don't want to go the parts store for the correct threaded bolt for the gear, use two bolts from the intake horn/grid heater. They are the correct thread as the gear. Stuff a rag into hole just in case you drop the key from the gear.
I'll give a dollar if ya take down that number from your gov spring
.
It's really not that tough, don't let the book confuse ya.
Any more ?'s feel free to ask.

Thanks for the info guys.
Bill, where did you buy the T-puller at, and thanks for the heads up on the intake horn bolts. I'll be sure to get a # off the spring when I start tinkering with the pump. Cashier check or money order will be fine...i'll pm you the shipping info.

This bad boy right here did the trick. Usually on the shelf at Sears. http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00941833000.
Well, the pump is off and it took just a tad over 2.5 hours and that included the time it took for fellow member JDGnut to build a gear puller. Come to find out the gear puller I borrowed would not work since it wasn't a "T" style so Bryan made something to do the job. The job went real smooth with two people working on it and I just hope it goes back on this easy.

Would have save us 15mins had we remove the return line before we removed the pump...

, after a few tugs, I knew something wasn't right

Yeah, I felt like an idiot aftter I realized the return line was hooked up. Sad thing is after a few tugs and it didnt come off, I just tugged harder.
I was expecting this job to be alot harder than it actually was. Maybe installing the FASS system tonight will put up more of a challenge.
