yep, dextron III or equivalent. My equivalent was Pennzoil multi-vehicle ATF.

I posted this question several months ago and recieved answers in the form of: Use Dextron II. I realize that most auto parts stores no longer carry Dextron II stuff.........so I guess Dextron III is just a newer verson of the fluid. Sounds like a quality brand of Dextron III will work just fine.

whats wrong with it??? Yea, its not amsoil or a high dollar fluid but the truck only hauls a few times a year. It's equivalent to dexron III. Plus i plan on dropping the pan in 6,000 miles or so to see how things look (just swapped the trans in). For me it would have been like flushing money down the toilet to put a high priced fluid in.

Amsoil. I was a Mobil 1 user after CAM 2 went away, (a thousand years ago!) i wanted PURE Synthetic and Mobil 1 is NOT. Lower trans tems (about 10 degrees, better shifts, and I tore the trans down after about a hundred thousand miles and it was like new, save for some minor clutch wear. Worth every penny in my book.
