DTT recommended ATF???

I've read a couple posts where guys said DTT says to ONLY use ATF+3 in their transmissions. Is this true? I've spoken with DTT a couple years ago and they made no mention of this back then. Also, how much fluid will I need when I drop my DD pan to change the filter?

Thanks

My DTT installer said to use dexron III. He said that the ATF+4 was too grippy a fluid for their setup. I asked him about Royal Purple and he said that would work too. I am changing mine this weekend. I think that it will take 7-8 quarts if I remember correctly.

Atf +3

Shanti at DTT told me that some folks use Royal Purple, some Amsoil, some Red Line, and some use Dexron III. The Dexron is more prone to shudder in some Dodges. They recommend a good ATF +3 over +4 because it has LESS friction modifiers. Did mine about 2 months ago and it took 15 quarts (drained the TC). Make sure to tighten you front band too.

Thanks. The trans is brand new so I'm just doing the 1500 mile maintenance on it. If the band needs adjusting already, then I've got big problems.......

You should plan to adjust the bands. That's one of the reasons of doing the service at 1500 miles. There is a certain amount of break in, that should be expected. Talk with your builder. He knows...

The only difference between +3 and +4 is the base stock used. +3 is conventional, +4 is synthetic. They are both formulated to the same spec.

Bill filled mine with dex at the rebuild. At the first service interval my bands did need a bit of adjustment. I refilled with amsoil and have been using it for the last 70k with no problems at all. I did notice that the dex was grippier during the shift. With the amsoil I did notice a little less grabby shift.

Mine told me ATF +3 for smooth shifts and dexron for firm shifts.

Hey Zilla

I think tim suggested an atf 3. (ask him for assurance)
He also said you should check the servo pressure clearance (something like that) and the band adjustment. All this at 2000 miles
I am about a hundred over now. just waiting to get on my buddies lift. I have a small leak up at the gear shifter as well

Hey Genros, my original post was almost a month ago. I did talk to Tim back then and they indeed recomment DexIII. That's what I put in. Band adjustments seemed fine...
