Rear end ratio in my 1991

What rear end ratios came with the 1991 ram 250. There is a data sheet under the hood that lists my ratio as a 3.0. Is this right? I thought that the choices were a 3.55 and a 4.10.

3.08 was one of the available ratio's in your year, and rear.

Yup, 3.08, it has a 3-speed auto too right?

Yes, it has a three speed auto. Is 3.08 standard for a three speed auto?

yes. very rare gearset. take good care of them cause you don't want to pay to fix them. Dodge used the 3.08's to compensate for 1)only having 3 gears and 2)the low factory rev limit of the cummins. With 4.10's your truck would only do like 51.3 mph

The 3.08 is about the best gear ratio you can have on the Cummins for drag racing.

And that 727 3-speed is the only good automatic transmission these trucks have ever had...

I agree with Begle, I have a 91 also and it is great. I get about 20MPG driving 55-60 and still runs about 84 WOT. Plenty fast for a 4x4 3/4 ton truck. I like it, but the ride is too stiff. My 97 has the 47 RE and I had to put a TC in it the first time I towed my trailer due to slippage. It does ride good though and I have no idea what the top speed is, well over 85 though. I don't want to find out. It has 3.5 gears and gets anywhere from 12-21 MPG. I can't quite get a handle on why the mileage is varying so much. Maybe that will be a new topic.

1991 w350

Hey guys,

I'm interested in a 1991 w350 (not dually) in my area. It has a 3 speed transmission, and I was wondering what the gears were likely to be. would dodge still put the 3.08 in a 1 ton?

Thanks,

Clark

Thanks for the quick response!

My knowledge is limited concerning these trucks. Is there much difference between the w250 and w350? Is the suspension usually the only difference? Do the 1 tons have anthing else beefed up to carry the load? ie transmission, transfer case, rear end?

thanks

My W250 has 6 leafs in the front. 6 and a helper (7) total in the rear. I know of a W350 with the same spring package.
