Radiator building extreme pressure

It started the other day coming from work. I replaced the thermostat and water pump filled it with water and same thing. Could it be a head gasket

I would double check that you put the T-stat in properly. I accidentally put one in backwards.....yeah how do you screw that up........ and the motor got super hot and built a ton of pressure.

Do a chemical check on the coolant for combustion gasses.

Simply for the benefit of those less informed, no "Stop-Leak" product will fix this.

(Unfortunately, it has to be said. )

Fortunately for you, Dan(looking at the glass half full), Mr. BoatNick just went thru his repair on his headgasket and recently finished it(his tread is on page 1) and I'm sure he will offer all tips, advice, shortcuts, etc. as this is all fresh in his head. I believe it was his first attempt, too, at a headgasket repair, and I believe he was 100% successful with the job.

Hopefully you have a shop manual. Keep us all posted. I'm dreading a head gasket repair myself.

A headgasket isn't that hard. The hardest part is torquing the bolts down. My arm still aches and it's been 40 years since I did my old chevy. The head on the Cummins is a bit heavy so you need a cherry picker. Check the flatness of the head and surface grind it if necessary. Also check carefully for cracks in the head and block. Use dye-check for this.

Uh, oh! Stay tuned for disassembly and reassembly pics from Dan! Good stuff!

Are you planning on any upgrades to the rebuild? Man, that really sucks. Not too long ago you were chasing down a noise, tearing apart things. You just got it back on the road not too long ago!
Heck, if your planning on pulling out the engine, plan up for an intercooler add on from a 2nd gen, or a 1999-2001 Ford Powerstroke diesel.
