Question for you Ford guys

I hear a lot of powerstrokes that sound like an FA/18 sitting on an aircraft carrier deck waiting to take off. That can't be a stock turbo. What are those guys putting in there? Sometimes the whistle is so loud I can't even hear the engine. Thanks.

Stock powerstrokes do whistle a lot. Adding a straight pipe and removing the silencer ring makes it even louder.

To me it sounds like it's always having to work to hard. My turbo only needs to sound like that when I'm actually doing something other than idling

Replace your hot side with a 9cm housing, it will whine off an idle.

Ever hear an M35a2 run?
I love the sound.

The old 7.3's don't sound like that, but they have "normal" turbos, like our 5.9's. Go to a 9cm housing or a he351ve, and it will whistle off idle. Boost off idle makes for a cleaner running truck and more power, both are good things.

A guy I work with had 1 and it never made any noise. The guy that plows around our hangar, even he complains about the noise. That thing is annoying.

I miss my turbo whistle
