pressure plate alignment

Hey there-

Finally had the time to install the G360 in my previously auto truck, however when I start it up it has the shakes like something is misbalanced. Is there a trick to aligning the pressure plate on the flywheel?

When I installed the clutch (sachs) i noticed that the pressure plate could move slightly on the flywheel surface. (before bolting it tight) Should the clutch be tight inside the lip of the flywheel or is there a trick? I got it as straight as I could, but maybe I need to get back in there.

I did not change the engine adapter plate, I assumed they were the same, but you know assumptions...

Found that the hole the machine shop bored for the pilot shaft roller bearing was .008 off center- truck ran fine with the trans out and the clutch still bolted up. Hope this was it...

Holy Macaroni!!! Not that you'd be happy with vibration, but consider how unhappy the G360's input shaft bearing would be...
cheers,
Douglas

Yeah, thankfully I did not run it for long.

Just got the flywheel back from the machine shop-fixed for free. Everybody blows it once in a while.

I went with the ball bearing flywheel when I replaced the clutch. It was a serious mix/match of bits and I am quite pleased with it now...
cheers,
Douglas

Your clutch kit didn't come with an alignment tool?

I think it did; but that is only going to line the disc up with a pilot bearing that is .008" away from where it should be... And so it shook for him.
cheers,
Douglas

Douglas2 is correct. The issue was bearing concentricity (sp?), not disk alignment.

I got everything together today and went for my first real test drive- Yahoo! what a difference! No vibration, and so much more fun to drive than the auto. A little smoky on the shifts, probably need a turbo upgrade...

I hope the members of this forum know how much they are helping people keep these things on the road. My truck would have been scrapped years ago if not for this site.

Thanks.
