posting for a friend of mine

She has a 93 D250 automatic, that surges in speed every once in a while. I cleaned out the TPS and ran the voltmeter tests and all is good. What would cause it to surge? PS- she has around 4,000 on her atf, and she has an auxilary atf filter. Fluids were changed by me. Let me know

fuel filter???? could be clogged/clogging. Lift pump may be going out. Does it puff smoke when it surges?

My guesses would be:

1) A fuel supply problem; changed filter?, checked lift pump, fuel lines, etc.?

2) A bad IP. On MF tractors with Perkins engines that have CAV IP surging usually means that it is time to have your IP rebuilt because the governor mechanism is getting worn.

If it ends up not being a lift/filter problem, tell her to put a 3200 spring in and see if it tightens up the governor a bit.

3200 already in...sorry I failed to mention this. her pump has mild tweaks, afc at highest slant, BD torque converter, gages, all the right stuff to pull a horse trailer.
