no power out of the hole

Howdy yall. I have a problem, at least I sure think I do. I just recently came across a 92 4wd chassis, and used it to convert my 77 clubcab gasser.
So heres the problem, I have no power right out of the hole, its almost like the converter is hitting stall before the motor can make any power, just smokes black, but wont boost, and wont come up with the rpms. Example is the curb at the end of my drive, if the tires are up against it, it wont pull itself over that, or if I try to back my trailer up into my driveway, which is uphill. Now every once in awhile it is like the convertor loosens up, and it allows it to wind up in the rpms, then it pulls. Is this a convertor issue? or is there something else I should be looking at here? the truck runs great once it starts to make boost, and the trans doesnt slip, but does seem to shift up really fast, unless I have it on the mat.. Any suggestions here?

thanks in advance
Clyde

oh and on a totally unrelated subject, being a conversion, I have another little issue. I used the column, harness and accesories from the 92 donor truck. the delayed wipers dont work, works fine on low, and high, but not on intermittent. I saw mention somewhere of a module for this, I assume in the harness somewhere, but I have no idea where to look or if that info is correct. second unrelated question is, there is a cruise control unit on the engine, the pod and all, it has extra wires behind the horn pad, but the pad doesnt have the controls on it, So if I find a pad with the controls, might that actually work? and if so, is there any source for that pad, other than just hunting junkyards? the one thats there is nonfunctional, even for the horns, as the copper plates are beat up to badly to straighten where they dont make contact all the time.. Yeah I know, I ask way to many questions lol.

Start looking for a boost leak and adjust the tps.....

My 92 with the auto is pretty weak off the line and no power as you say trying to jump a curb. It's the convertor-"in my opinion and this is just me junk the auto and get a 5sp for a work truck". Yea you have to shift gears and work out your right arm but when you jump a curb or back up a trailer or start a heavy load the 5sp will be there for ya and ready to work. But this is just my opinion. Good luck.

My guess is the convertor. Adjusting the TPS will do nothing aside from adjusting the OD shift points.

If I get another auto truck, the first thing it's getting is a convertor- even before pyro and boost gauges. My buddy put a Precision convertor in his truck, and it's a totally new truck now. It'll do 60mph in about a block and a half now, vs taking 1/2mi before.

Another thing to look into is the timing. If it has been advanced a lot, it will lose bottom end, but my guess is still the convertor.

nope it is definitely hitting first. I used the 92 chassis, along with the column/harness/etc. Used as much of the newer stuff as possible.
If the wonderful Coldorado weather cooperates tomorrow, I will knock the timing down a skoce and see if that helps. The boost #s are good, cant find any leaks anywhere. Only other possibillity I have stumbled on, is the kickdown cable, need to check it out and adjust it if needed before I get carried away.
