Old friend of mine died
Old friend of mine died
Back in the mid 80's I became a racing freak. Alcohol funny cars and the new top comp stuff really was in my blood. A friend of mine got me going on the alcohol funny car stuff and I was hooked. I went to every drag race I could afford to with him. The friend was Jett Field, "The Idaho Kid" For nearly four decades Jett raced cars. He, I , and many others wrenched on that funny car and the latest craze of his, a Jet powered dragster. He called it "Jett Force" He had had some bad crashes in the Alcohol floppers over the years and finally decided to try jet dragsters.
Saturday night at Spokane Raceway Park his car crashed and flipped a few times and fatally injured Jett.

Jett was the kind of guy that would give you anything you needed. I would go on hunting trips to Idaho and he would let me stay at his house for weeks on end while he was off on vacation or whatever. I cant tell you guys how many times Jett made me and others laugh. The funniest guy I ever met. We are all gonna miss this character

For a little more go here:

http://www.spokaneracewaypark.com/

A little more here:
http://www.journalnet.com/articles/2...s/sports01.txt

Don~

Re:Old friend of mine died
Over the years I have lost many friends who have died in accidents. Including my wife. Even when just an aquantance dies, it still cuts to the heart. I feel for you.

Sorry to hear about your friend. Never easy to lose someone you are close to. But, looking at the slightly brighter side ... he was doing what he loved to do when his time was up.

My condolences to his family,
PISTOL
Re:Old friend of mine died
He was doing exactly what he was made to do. All he ever did was race cars. All over. 30 plus years of driving. He was one of the best drivers I have ever seen. The reason for Jett not becoming the best in the world was he would never bend or change for sponsor demands. He did what he did and would not do anything different to please them. The big beer, oil, etc. companies came knocking all the time with money in hand, but with ideas of their own on how to manage things. If it cut into Jetts family time....the deal was off. He would go and work a second job to buy the newest blower or engine block before he would take money and be told where to be and when to be there.
As a member of the pit crew I never took a single paycheck. I knew Jett did not have the cash. He did pay our airfare or travel expenses and that was plenty.
I watched him hit the wall one time at about 200MPH and get the helo ride to the hospital and the second he woke up he wanted to know if anyone else was hurt. Then if he had won
Thanks for the responses guys...

Man, that is terrible
I was in Las Vegas when he raced the funny car. He really put on a good show for the fans. I've seen him run several times and have chatted with him a bit. He'll surely be missed...
