Pointers on presure testing innercooler

Just wondered if any one had some pointers on testing for leaks on the innercooler. I'm assuming a guy could plug the plumbing at the intake and the turbo side and use a shrader valve to presurize to maybe 60psi. :-

Also, I wondered if the Banks innercooler actually handles any added capacity "more C.F.M" than the stock cooler? :-

Thank You ;D

FWIW,

Don't pressurize to 60 psi... way too high...
If you do, you'll find out what happens to the back of the alternator when your plug/air fitting shoot off... not good...

You can use some good quality rubber hose, a basic air fitting with a psi gauge and valve for this.
Pressurize to about 20 psi and watch for leak down. Normally there will be a very small amount of leakdown because you'll have some valves partly open/closed etc. Pressure it up, and listen closely. Have a spray bottle with soapy water handy to squirt at the hoses/boots/ intercooler core.

Bushey;
Thanks for the reply. I'm just curious if 60 psi is to high, how do some folks run that kind of presure during engine opperation "twin turbo's"? special boots? I understand this pdr hx40/16 I just bought will run around 40 psi. ;D

Just wondering if you have an idea who I could go through to buy replacement boots. With my discount through Dodge they want $320.00 for the 4 of them. I just figured with 175k on my truck it might be smart just to replace them. :-

If you just got a PDR HX40/16, you were talking to good people to get your boots from. They sell really good, heavy duty silicone tubing. Cost a little over $50 for tubing for a 1st gen.

Carl;
I beleive your right about the folks at PDR . Actualy I bought the turbo used w/ 3500mi. on it. ;D I did find out talking to Bob aka "BUSHY" that PDR has a nice set of boots at 40 persent less than dodge.
I'm hopefully going to install the ATS manifold and the turbo w/4" exaust this weekend. ;D It's to hot to work outside "105degrees" so I'll just have work in my airconditioned shop :'( .

Ok now ramguy,,,, you must be new to this stuff..... geeezzzzzz 105*F now how do you think the heart surgeon does his work ... You get in the truck, start it, turn on the AC and then carefully go thru the glove box, out the firewall, and down the piping to install that stuff ;D...... you must still be an "intern" or something... ;D

And yes we do have boot kits and yes they are TUFF. You need to boil the boots and install them hot, or so I've been told, because they're on heck of a tight fit.... but then they don't pop off either...

Actually, they are not that bad to get on. No boiling or hairspray necessary. I installed mine in about 30 minutes (all 4). It took almost as long to cut them to length (2 @ 4" and 2 @ 5&quot as it did to install. They are tough. I expect them to still be on the truck when it goes to CTD heaven (years down the road), where ever that may be.

Bushy;
I've spent my college money on BOMBING' & Air Conditioning, so I have an excuse for doing it the hard way.
I think I'll use a cut off wheel on a dotco to cut those boots to length. ;D Nothing like air power. ;D I might try ASTRO-GLIDE if it that tight a fit.
