When your truck is cold - as in first thing in the morning - it will show a little white/lite gray smoke. This is due to the KSB solenoid advancing timing about 5 degrees. Once the engine temp comes up the KSB solenoid lets the timing back to it's per start-up position. It is a normal operating condition - not to worry.

That sure looks like regular white smoke to me. Does it make your eyes water when you stand in the cloud?
As long as it doesn't smell like burning coolant, it's normal white smoke. White smoke is incompletely burned diesel fuel, caused by too cool a temp in the cylinder - unlike black smoke which is unburned diesel caused by not enough air.

here's my white smoke on start up. that was taken on a pretty cold morning though. try running a healthy dose of stanadyne through the tank. if that doesn't help, you might have to pull the injectors and have them tested. i just had mine done after having them in for less than a year. one was so bad it only had one super-soaker like stream coming off it (it shoulda had four nice misted streams).

as far as how much smoke and when, yeah. and as far as $ go, all i had to pay for were new washers ($6). the guy i took them to doesn't charge unless they need adjustment. mine didn't, just needed a good cleaning. he said if he had to adjust, it would be $60. that seemed like the going price for around here.
Sho-shane, it sounds like your KSB may be on the fritz.
The KSB is the thing on the side of the injection pump with a wire going to it. Next time you cold start the truck, pull that wire off first and see if the truck smokes worse. If it's no worse, the KSB system has a problem and we can point you in the right direction to making it work again.

Hey dave sorry to steal the thread sho but my kbs came of tonite and the truck wouldnt start, i thought my battire was dead so i popped the hood and there it was just hangin there, i also noticed a ton more smoke on the way home and played a lot more
but does that sound right that the kbs causes the truck not to start?
