if you want the cheap Delphi pump but also want 12-15psi, all you need is the correct spring from fastenal to replace the one that comes with the pump. All of about $3. I've been running this pump/spring combo for well over a year now with no problems. With all the parts coming from Cummins Parts | Engines | New & Remanufactured you can have it done for about $120

What the is the material used for the noise blanket??!?
Been trying to get a line started with a piece of new hacksaw blade for the last 30 minutes only to get scratches into what looks to be metal!
I know BC used some porting tool, but what other tools, like hand tool can be used to cut that darn insulation?

I recently installed a fuel pressure gauge and the old Delphi lift pump I have been running for about 7 years is pushing out a steady 10psi no matter what.

I just received my Piston Lift Pump in the mail today. The Box has 3936320 on it but there are no other markings as to who made the pump but it looks to be good quality. I got it through Amazon for $51.99
Amazon Amazon

EDIT! Don't get this pump it puts out to much pressure.

The fuel line is $25.42
Amazon Amazon

The spacer is $16.39
Amazon Amazon

LarryB's also has the extra gasket. I ordered 2.

I'm confused however if the spring from Fastenall (SKU # 110166720) is necessary for this pump. Does the spring raise or lower the pump pressure or is the spring necessary only for a different pump part number?

I was tinkering with a Cummins piston pump last week.

Checked the fuel pressure and it read 17 psi.

I removed the spring and cut off 1 coil from the wide end of the spring.

Tested it again and it ran at 13 psi.

Thanks. Which pump was that? What part number? I'd rather not have to mess with tapping in a pressure gauge. I just want to install the pump and go. Another user specified this spring from Fastenall that would make the pressure right but I read this entire thread and I couldn't figure out if the spring is for the pump I ordered or if it was to lower the pressure of another part numbered pump to work with the VE.

I'm still waiting on the hard line to come in the mail so I have some time.

Jim, what was wrong with the 17 psi? I've been running my piston LP from Cummins now since 2008, and with a new filter it'll hover around 18psi. Never suffered any ill effects with the VE pump.

Based on all the opinions I've heard from this site and other sites, is that between 7 and 12 psi should be your target pressure, and that going higher
just increases the risk of potential pump leakage problems.

Sorry I did not copy the PN It had Cummins stamped into the housing. I assumed it was a 2nd gen lift pump. Nicely built and heavy duty, Delphi pump is cheaper looking.
That post suggests that if you take out the spring of the Cummins pump and replace it with the Fastenal spring it will lower the pressure for the VE.

I took the fuel filter banjo bolt out and drilled the internal passage out through
the top of the head, then tig welded on a 1/4 steel coupling, then threaded on a grease gun hose with a gauge as a test gauge. I leave it hooked up under the hood and am able to check pressure whenever I have the hood open for the usual engine checks.

Edwin I checked the part number and found the pump listed as high volume pump for the VE injection pump. so if the numbers are correct no spring change will be necessary.

Thanks everyone! Now all I have to get is the hard line from the pump to the filter. I think I already have the banjo bolt seals got extra when fixing a previous leak at the VE pump. Not sure if I want to enlarge the holes in the banjo bolt since my pump is stock at present so I don't really need the extra flow. I'm just looking to get some extra mileage from the pump over the diaphragm type. I don't want to weaken the bolt.
