piston lift pump advantage
piston lift pump advantage
so i see alot of people putting the piston lift pumps on there rigs, whats the advantage of this? how much more fuel does it flow any problems with our ve pumps holding pressure?
The more you compress/pressurize something, the hotter it gets. So going from 2-5psi to 15psi would increase the heat of the fuel before the IP. Now the IP then pressurizes it even further to 100-300psi. Now you have more going in but the outlet is still restricting which helps keep up the pressure for the stock system.
It goes against logic to say that.
Now if you are draining the case, then I see the benefits outweighing the bad. But on a stock system, no.
FWIW, the newer big rigs have a fuel thermostat. The cooler the fuel the more power up-rating it gets. Put a resistor in line and gain 20-50hp as the ECU thinks the fuel is cooler. Some people have also said putting a fuel cooler on the return of their CR's helps with EGT's.

Fuel Temp Issues
Maybe if it's doing this:
The entire tank is turned over by normal circulation while running in some short period, probably less that around 10-20 minutes depending on how much is in there. So fuel temp seen by the injection system is more a long term cumulative function over time than anything else. This may become an issue during hot summer months, especially with the tank running low.
I run fuel coolers in the return lines on both my trucks.

Thanks Nadir Point
That also makes more sense into what I said in post 4.

Thanks for your input on to what I've always read here also. That I to also posted above.
Seams like there is from time to time a piece of the puzzle missing.
Fuel cooler
I got a few automatic transmission coolers not laying around anymore.
