What's the advantage of a Horton Fan????

Okay, here's a dumb question from an old f**t - - - what are the advantages of a Horton Fan? Bob Beauchaine, I've read where you said it seldom comes on in the summer and never in the winter. Of course I could make a bunch of assumptions, but then what does an Old Man know?

I do not know as I do not own one but would figure it might free up some Horsepower when it is not spinning with the way the clutches are set up. Maybe it is designed to also pass more air due to blade angle or something? Maybe it is just knowing that you have one that it should make you feel better for spending all that money.

This fan is energized electrically like the ac clutch and draws less HP that the fan clutch. I looked into it a while back but decided not to get it.

they are like $700 aren't they? Seemed way pricey. Just go buy injectors to overcome the fan ;D

I did both!!! The Horton fan is a great towing aid. Coming back from Diesel Thunder in Spokane WA towing about 8000 lbs in 90 degree weather my coolant ran at 180 and my EGTs stayed at 950 with the fan on. This was towing at a steady 70 mph. As with this mod my main reason for adding the Horton was to better cool my truck when towing. I also feel that it provides better mileage plus you can pre cool prior to running up hill. The DD3+s coupled with Old Smokys eccentric also help my truck to run cooler.

Bob, I know you're younger than I am. Who do ya think taught JC how to use a hammer? . Okay Pastor, no coachin' Bob B about my age. One thing about old age, when you get there, is you can get away with just about anything. People just say, "Ah he can't hurt anything at his age." ;D

It is a thermostatically controlled electric clutch driven fan. It engages similar to the clutch on your ac compressor.

Re:What's the advantage of a Horton Fan????

OK, thanks.

I had thought about putting an electric fan on mine this summer. It seldom gets over 190* or so when the temp is around 100* outside, but I would like to keep it to 190* or below. It seems to run better below the 190* mark.
I was just going to use a rocker switch and turn it on and off as needed.

Has anyone tried this? ???

That would probably be OK if you remembered to turn it on when needed.
