piston lift pump?

Guys i need a better lift pump. Is the piston pump good for more pressure? Also there is 2 kinds right. I was reading in the sticky about this thing and was wondering which one should i get. I read BC's writeup sounds pretty simple but what kind of numbers are we talking about for pressure? I was wondering where to get it and what model to buy. How much will the whole thing set me back. thanks guys

Someone else can answer your pressure question, but I just put a piston lift pump in a few days ago and I am very happy.

From my local Cummins dealer are the following updated numbers.

pump for our trucks #4988751 - 180.82
fuel line #3914753 - 34.63
2 gaskets #3939258 - 3.94 for 2
spacer #3914284 - 12.45
2 seals #3963983 - 3.82 for 2

~$264 with CA tax and freight if necessary

It reads like you have playing for a while. I just learned how to tie my shoes.

i just got the same parts from my local cummins shop and paid 175. i guess it just depends on the shop. that pump listed above is the lower pressure pump. it is good for about 15 psi at the injection pump. if you are running injectors larger than PODs you might want to consider running the higher psi pump with a regulator.

It will not dump diesel into you crankcase like the stock pump if the pump fails either.

Find a Case/IH dealer nearby, drop the first digit in the Cummins part number, replace with a J. Get them for about half price.

guys so i went to the case dealer today and he couldnt find the right pump with these new numbers but he cross referenced it and found it for 130 bucks. he assked me the horse power rating of the truck and looked it up on some tractors could this pump that he's telling me about have a higher psi output than the one i need? i think im just gonna buy it and then hook my gauge up to it and if i need a regulator i need a regulator or snubber correct? thanks guys
